  2.PROPHECIES,MAKING MONEY DURING THE STORYLINE-2.1-2.5

This section of the guide is designed to provide you with money-making tips that can be used in each of the major portions of the Prophecies campaign storyline, including good farming spots. Thanks to the map travel feature, you can also go back to an earlier region of the world in order to farm. If a spot is too hard for you to solo when you first arrive, you can always return later.
2.1 Pre-Searing Ascalon
Pre-Searing Ascalon, the home of new characters, is basically one giant tutorial area. By following a few basic principles and taking on most of the available quests, it is very easy to leave pre-Searing with well over 1000g (also known as one platinum) in coins and loot, often enough money to buy a full set of good armor upon reaching post-Searing Ascalon City. In case you want to start amassing an even larger fortune, there is a farming spot of sorts here.
Prize-winning Hogs

This is an odd little mini-game that offers 25g as a reward. If you go to the center of the village in Lakeside County, you will probably notice several “Prize-winning hog” running around. Check the nearby pigpen to find Farmer Dirk, the owner of the pigs. Talk to him, and he will ask you to help him gather his pigs into the pen. To make a pig move, walk up behind it and bump into it; it (usually) will run a short distance in the direction it was facing, though the direction is also affected by the angle from which you bumped into it. By continually pushing the hogs, you should be able to push all of them back into the pen; there are between six and

eight hogs. Once all of them are inside, talk to Dirk again, and he will give you 25g. You can only do this mini-game one time per character, even though it isn’t technically a quest. This isn’t a very efficient way to make money, but it can be handy if you’re still saving up to buy your first identification kit.
“Charr in the Catacombs” Quest
As part of its rewards, this quest gives 100g, a nice financial boost for so early in the game. Prince Rurik inside Ascalon City gives this quest; you can talk to him up on the northwestern wall of the city. You can also find Rurik outside by the gate in Lakeside County once you have cleared some of your initial quests. The quest itself will take you into the catacombs area, which is accessed directly from Ashford Abbey, an outpost west-by-southwest of Ascalon City.
Save Charr Hides, Materials, and Dyes
This tip won’t make you rich immediately, but it will set you up to make a large sum of gold in the future. As you complete quests and fight foes in pre-Searing Ascalon, you may be lucky enough to see one or more dyes drop. You might be tempted to experiment with dying your armor, but the better option is to keep the dyes in order to sell them later in the game. Also, as you experiment with using salvage kits, you’ll begin amassing a store of crafting materials. Avoid selling these to merchants, since a trader NPC or other players will pay more for them later. Finally, a few of the quests in pre-Searing involve killing Charr. If they drop any Charr Hides, be sure to keep them; don’t salvage or sell them. As with the other items described here, they’ll be many times more profitable if you keep them until you reach post-Searing Ascalon City.
Farming Spot: “Charr at the Gates” quest – Charr
Charr Hides will be worth a significant amount of gold once you reach post-Searing. If you’d like to go out of your way to collect a supply of them in advance, find Prince Rurik up in the turrets inside Ascalon City and request the “Charr at the Gates” quest. Head out to Lakeside County and follow Rurik north and west to the gate where several Charr have breached Ascalon’s defenses. Help Rurik kill the Charr.

You’ll only have a chance to get a piece of loot from Charr that you “kill” (i.e., deal most of the damage to), so try to focus on one that Rurik isn’t attacking. Having elementalist skills can be helpful for this, since the Charr are somewhat vulnerable to fire damage.

One of their possible loots is “Charr Hide,” which will pay off in post-Searing. Weapons and other items of value can also drop, providing an immediate boost to your gold supply.
When all of the Charr are dead, travel back to Ascalon City using your map, open the quest log, and abandon the quest. Then request it from Rurik again in order to spawn more Charr. In this way, you can repeat the quest as many times as you like in order to collect more and more loot from the Charr.
If you’re fast at using map travel, you can also try killing all of the Charr except one and then “mapping” back quickly before Rurik can finish it off. Since your quest status doesn’t update until all of them are dead, if you return to Lakeside County afterward, you’ll find the Charr have respawned, and Rurik will be charging them again. This alternate method is a handy timesaver, since it takes about a minute just to abandon the quest, run up to Rurik’s turret, request it again, and run back outside
2.2 Post-Searing Ascalon
Welcome to the uglier but much more profitable version of Ascalon! Making gold in this part of the game revolves around killing Charr and getting the most cash possible out of their drops. Since you will fight many of them during the game’s first four cooperative missions, you can make quite a bit of money in this region using the tips that follow:
The “Charr Hide” Collector in Ascalon City
“Charr Hide” is a well-known salvage item that drops uncommonly from any Charr in the game. In order to make the best money with them, do not salvage them. Instead, take them four at a time to Calissa Sedgwick, a collector in Ascalon City. Select the Fur Square reward. This rare crafting material sells well to players, and if no one's buying, you can also sell it to Menth, the Rare Material Trader in the city, for 200-300g, depending on the economy. If the sale price is low at the time, wait a few hours and check back.
The “Charr Carving” Collector at Piken Square

Charr Carvings, which drop commonly from any Charr, sell to merchants for 3g each. This isn’t much gold, but there is a way to make these items a little more profitable.
In Piken Square is a collector NPC named Louise Haup. She requests three Charr Carvings and offers a variety of weapons as rewards. Any of the weapons she offers will sell to a merchant for 15g. By selling the collection reward, you can get 5g per carving instead of just 3g. This small increase will add up quickly if you have gathered a large number of carvings.
Selling Althea’s Ashes
“Althea’s Ashes” is a popular quest requested from Duke Barradin in Piken Square (an outpost located in the northeast corner of The Breach, which is accessed through a gate along the Wall in Old Ascalon). Unlocking this quest requires completing a short prerequisite quest, “The Duke’s Daughter,” also given by Barradin.
The objective in “Althea’s Ashes” is to raid a Charr temple and recover Lady Althea’s remains; however, there’s a peculiar trick to this quest that can make it very profitable: you can get multiple copies of the objective item and sell them other players. Here’s a brief walkthrough for doing so. Bringing along a party of henchmen or other players is advised if you’re attempting this while progressing through the story:
●In Piken Square, talk to Duke Barradin to receive the quest. He’ll hand you a Barradin Family Urn.
●Abandon the quest and request it again to get a second urn. Repeat this process until you have as many urns as you feel like bringing. You’ll be able to get one copy of Althea’s Ashes for each urn.
●From Grendich Courthouse (if you haven’t been there yet, see section 4.2.3, “From post-Searing Ascalon City to Yak’s Bend” heading for directions to this outpost), exit to Diessa Lowlands, head east, and then go northeast off the road as soon as possible.
●When you reach the dried up lake bed, go to its northeast corner and look for a narrow valley leading east. Go through it.
●Enter the tar lake and go northeast. Watch out for swarms of devourers here.
●At the north, central edge of the lake you’ll see the entrance to Flame Temple Corridor. Enter.

●An NPC group of Ascalon Strikers will be in the Corridor. Use them to help you take on the groups of Charr as you fight your way northeast to the altar.
●The “Charr Altar” in the northeast corner of the zone is heavily guarded by Charr. Area-effect spells are very useful here due to the sheer number of Charr you’ll be able to hit with them; just be careful not to rack up a death penalty in the process.
●Once you clear the Charr, clicking on the altar will give you “Althea’s Ashes.” Clicking it again, and again, and again will give additional copies until you run out of Barradin Family Urns.
Once you have plenty copies of the ashes, take them back to Piken Square and sell the extras to other players doing the quest. Once the ashes are in a customer’s inventory, his/her quest will update, and he/she will be able to complete it by talking to Barradin. The typical going price at the time of this writing is 100-200g per urn of ashes. The main problem with this money-making method is that it offers infinite supply in the face of limited demand, so you’re not likely to get rich quickly by selling these ashes, though it provides a nice financial boost on days when lots of newer characters are around to do the quest. Also, this loophole could be closed during a future update, so consider offering an urn of ashes to one player for free (just to see if it still works) each time you prepare to sell them.
Note: for high-level folks who are reading this but have already done the quest, be aware that you must have the “Althea’s Ashes” quest in your quest window in order for the altar to give you any ashes. With that in mind, you may want to collect the extra ashes on an alternate character.
Farming Spot: “Nolani Academy” mission – Charr attacking the Academy
The Nolani Academy mission, the fourth and final mission in this region, is one of the best places to gather large numbers of Charr Hides and Carvings, along with some gold and sellable loot. Being able to damage many mobs at once (for example, with area-of-effect spells) is very helpful here, so set up your skills accordingly. Fire-based elementalists can really rake in the cash here, since Charr are (oddly enough) somewhat vulnerable to fire. Here is a walkthrough for farming the beginning of the mission:

●Upon entering the mission, hold down your left ALT key and look around. You should see a lever nearby.
●Push the lever to open the Academy’s gates, causing the besieging Charr to rush Prince Rurik and his guards.
●Run to the top of the stairs, standing back so the Charr will initially attack the Flaming Scepter Mages and Rurik instead of you. If you’re doing this at level 20, you can probably ignore this safety precaution and rush the Charr yourself.
●Once several Charr are clustered together around an NPC, use your area damage skills to deplete their health quickly and use single-target skills if needed to finish them off.
●Once all the attacking Charr are dead, collect their loot and leave the mission.
●After selling unwanted items, return to the mission if you want to fight the swarm of Charr again.
●Tip: Rurik and the Flaming Scepter mages will attack the Charr if they get close. Since these NPCs are not technically in your party, remember that you must deal most of the damage to each Charr in order to get its loot.
2.3 Northern Shiverpeaks
Your stay in the Northern Shiverpeaks will consist of only two cooperative missions and a little running. The only effective farming spot in the region is also somewhat out of the way. Thankfully, there’s really not much to buy here, so you can keep your focus on getting through to Kryta. Even so, here is a tip and a farming location:
Save Stone Summit Badges
You’ll fight many Stone Summit dwarves during your brief stay in the Shiverpeaks. These dwarves frequently drop Stone Summit Badges. They sell well to merchants at 8g apiece, but you can make much better money with them if you keep them until you reach Droknar’s Forge (see section 2.7). Once you reach the “Gates of Kryta” mission area, consider putting the badges in storage to free up their slot in your inventory.
Farming Spot: Griffon’s Mouth – snow ettins

This farming spot is the icy, cavern zone linking Deldrimor Bowl and Scoundrel’s Rise along the path to Kryta. To get to Griffon’s Mouth, take the northwest exit of Beacon’s Perch (you’ll end up there after clearing the second mission in the region) and follow the road as it winds around to the southwest.
Griffon’s Mouth is mainly populated by one type of mob: snow ettins. These lumbering brutes are warriors whose only skill is Power Attack. At worst, they attack in groups of four, though groups of three are more common. They drop upwards of 20g each with the possibility of other sellable loot and some salvage items. Any class combo with a good mix of offensive and defensive capabilities should do fine here, though all-out offensive builds will probably do better sticking with the Nolani Academy farm spot for now.
2.4 Kryta
Kryta is a huge region with a few good opportunities for making cash. As with the previous region, you probably won’t be in serious need of cash during this part of the story, but collecting all the gold you can while adventuring here will increase your purchasing power later.
Getting More Cash from Decayed Orr Emblems
Many areas in Kryta are teeming with the undead – reanimated servants of the ruined kingdom of Orr. The undead commonly drop Decayed Orr Emblems, which only sell for 12g apiece to merchants. You can make them more profitable by normal salvaging them, which yields ~3 bolts of cloth per salvage. As long as the selling price of Bolts of Cloth at the material trader is above 60g per ten bolts, this method is more profitable than just selling to a merchant. For maximum profits, wait for the price of cloth to skyrocket before selling.
Farming Spot: “D’Alessio Seaboard” mission – Undead

This mission area west of Lion’s Arch makes a great farming spot for monks, whether primary or secondary. There is one major reason for this: for the first 80% of the mission, all of the mobs are undead and take double damage from holy attacks. Furthermore, while this mission contains several NPCs who help fight the undead, few of them are strong enough to defeat anything on their own. Smiting/healing monk builds can help keep these NPC tanks alive while

still doing enough damage to get credit for the kills. Non-monks will probably want to farm elsewhere, since holy damage is the clincher for soloing this mission quickly.
Monks seeking to farm here should reallocate their attribute points so Smiting Prayers is maxed; having several levels in Healing or Protection Prayers is also important. If you’re following this guide as you play through the story, you won’t yet have very many direct damage skills under Smiting Prayers. While this mission can be farmed with only Banish, Smite, Symbol of Wrath, etc., it will be more efficient to come back here after you’ve reached Augury Rock (in Crystal Desert) and have Zealot’s Fire.
Here is a checklist for farming the area efficiently:
●Follow Justicar Isaiah along the road and clear out the undead. If you want him to take hits for you, be sure to let him engage the enemies first, and keep him healed.
●After a few battles, if he isn’t already dead, the Justicar will retreat.
●Keep going to the village, which will be under attack by many undead. Find the nearest villager who is under attack and start killing the undead attacking him/her, healing the villager as necessary.
●Repeat this until all of the villagers are dead or safe.
●Pull any remaining undead units to the nearby healing fountain. It will regen your health while weakening the undead’s attacks.
●After killing the remaining undead troops, defeat the boss standing on the hill nearby.
●For best efficiency, you should go ahead and return to town, sell, and enter the mission again. Alternatively, you can keep going until you reach Confessor Dorian’s altar and kill the swarm of undead that attacks it.
●Tip: To maximize gold income here, try only using normal salvage kits on the various salvage items that drop, unless they have a rune in them. Virtually all of the salvage items you’ll be getting here will normal salvage to ~6 bolts of cloth, which is usually in moderate or high demand. Since normal kits only cost 100g, using this method is often more cost-effective than using expert kits in hopes of getting linen; silk is more common among the rare salvages for these items and seldom sells well.

Since the gold drops in this mission are lackluster, you’ll be relying on the huge numbers of salvaged materials to make farming here worthwhile.
2.5 Maguuma Jungle And Krytan Coastline
This large region of the game contains only one especially effective gold-farming spot, but its quality makes up for the lack of quantity. After cutting your way through a dense jungle, you’ll eventually reach…
Farming Spot: “Sanctum Cay” mission – Lightning Drakes and Fire Imps
This mandatory mission is a very well-known farming spot but definitely deserves mention here. Near the beginning of this mission are two groups of fire imps and (more importantly) three groups of lightning drakes. Some farmers like to skip the imps by running through, but killing them is almost as simple with the right setup and yields gold, too. Having armor or skills that reduce damage from fire and lightning elemental attacks is a large help here, a fact that makes this an especially good solo spot for rangers or mesmers. Blood Magic necromancers can also function quite well against these foes.
A major source of money here is gold coins, since the drakes drop it commonly, and there’s a barrel on their beach that contains ~100g. You may also see some rare crafting materials and items for salvaging drop. The imps can drop “Lump of Charcoal,” which usually sell for over 100g each to rare material traders. In addition, the Glowing Hearts the imps drop will occasionally expert salvage to a “Lump of Charcoal.” The drakes can drop “Monstrous Fang,” which sells to normal merchants for 100g and sometimes sells even better to rare material traders. All told, each run yields 200-400g before salvaging, and each run only takes about ten minutes with average damage output.
Here is a basic checklist for farming this mission:
●Upon entering the mission, run off the boat, ignoring Evennia, and kill the first group of fire imps.
●Move forward and kill the second group of fire imps.
●Head south to the beach, turn left, and kill the small group of drakes that comes down from the nearby hill.

●Kill the remaining two groups drakes. You might find it helpful to use the now-empty high ground to your advantage.
●Run over to the southeast corner of the beach and loot the barrel.
●Map travel back to town and sell unwanted items.
